Arizona is a fascinating state because of the extreme reactions its controversial legislation seems to elicit from the country.  It’s definitely the Wild West when it comes to legislation, with the recently passed immigration law known as SB1070.

W
e have differences in voting records, campaign styles, beliefs on social and economic issues, even the music we hear at campaign rallies; the list goes on and on. Instead of looking at the differences that we see plastered in headlines on a day-to-day basis let’s consider one of the fundamental differences between the modern day liberal and conservative.

Glenn Beck's Restoring America rally was a pleasant surprise. All great leaders have something in common: their belief in a transcendent being called God. This belief in God is the answer to restoring America because we are not fighting a physical battle; we are first and foremost fighting a spiritual one. Without recognizing this we will lose the culture and end up with a society that trades freedom for comfort, with pleasure as the good, choosing leaders that promise that Utopian delusion.

In discovering God we discover who Progressives are trying to replace through the use of an ever expanding government. I'll explain why the Restoring America rally was so remarkable and how intelligent Glenn Beck’s plea for the American soul was, whether you believe he realized it or not.

There is nothing more fundamental to any discipline than a belief in God. What is more basic than belief about simple, unqualified, eternal being - the being that gives life to all that exists? Nothing! That is why Glenn Beck decided to make this rally about America coming back to a proper understanding and relationship with God instead of voter registration or the recruitment of political activists. On that day, Mr. Beck not only got back to the most basic of all ideas, showing that natural religion is connected to freedom and freedom to liberty, but he also demonstrated that God is more basic than politics and philosophy is more basic than political science.

My two cents on President Obama's Iraq Speech:

I've read a few commentaries from other conservatives on the President's speech yesterday and a common theme seems to be that he seemed either bored or tired or lacking in his usual oratorical magic and gusto or something to that effect.

Legalization and Justification

The former president of the Royal College of Physicians in England believes that drugs should be legalized and regulated by the state:
"Professor Sir Ian Gilmore said making drugs such as heroin and cocaine legal would “drastically” cut crime and addicts’ health problems. State-regulated use of drugs would also save money and avert the need to try to stop drug production in countries such as Afghanistan, he said…Sir Ian also said he was persuaded by a recent article in the British Medical Journal, which argued that the prohibition of drugs had been “counterproductive”, made many public health problems worse, and stimulated organised crime and terrorism. Sir Ian said that banning drugs had harmed society. “There’s a lot of evidence that the total prohibition of drugs, making them totally illicit and unavailable, has not been successful at reducing not only the health burden, but also the impact on crime,” he said.”

I’m not yet convinced either way regarding the idea drug legalization. However, I think the argument put forth here is flawed:
